Rape Everywhere

Recently, a young girl has accused her boyfriend and his three friends of her rape at the Landmark Hotel in Durbarmarg, a business and tourist hub of Kathmandu. The investigative officers may find out the truth about the incident in near future. But the rate of rapes across the country is devastating and outrageous.

Another similar accident is recently reported from Itahari. This case is more heartbreaking as the victim involved is only 14-year-old teenager. And rapists and their families have paid some money with the help of the police and silenced her family members. But higher police authorities have reopened the case citing this is a big crime.  

Some of these latest incidents clearly depicts the vulnerability of the girls and women. Worst of all is when a child gets raped. There are cases of raping octogenarian grandmothers as well. Rape is all about how civilized you are. It largely depends upon the rapist’s mindset. Some people blames women for wearing revealing and ‘provoking’ clothes. But these silly peoples have completely forgotten the fact that minors and Muslims covering their whole body are also raped.

It should be noticed with great care that bikini wearing women in some sea side don’t get raped. But a six-year school going girl has to be a victim. Henceforth, incidents of rape are entirely dependent upon how your mind functions and how you perceive sex.

Some myths about rape exist in our society. For instance, you two persons are in a relationship and they have had sex with each other before. But its always not ok to have sex again. If either one of the partners is unwilling, then it is clearly a case of rape. Cases of marital rapes are also reported in our country. In most of the cases, women get victimized.

It cannot be excluded that men never gets raped. But due to superiority in physical power, aggressive nature, social reasons etc., women are raped in the most cases.

Researches about rape showed that around 10% rapes are only committed by strangers. 90% or majority of the total rapes around the world happens inside your home or by your acquaintances. It is so miserable that you have to be suspicious and cynical with your family members as well.

False accusations of rape are so few. It is reported that only 2% of all the rape cases are false and came as to take revenge on man. It should also be understood that it takes a lot of courage and support to report a rape case. So, rape cases should be investigated properly and well upheld by security personnel as well.
